What to Eat

Haleem: One of the most popular dishes this season and everyone has a story of their own to relate with this Arabic special. Made of wheat, barley and minced mutton, this dish is cooked for about 6-7 hours on low flame until a thick paste like consistency is attained. High on protein and very good during the fasting time, Haleem in Bangalore is very famous.

Pista House Haleem is very well known and popular with its wide range of branches all across India. With Pista House offering Haleem at their authentic outlet on the Mosque Road, it is one dish that you shouldn't miss this season. They also offer Chicken and even Vegetarian variants.

Bheja Fry: Not a Ramadan only dish, but the Brain Fry is a must try. Goat or Sheep's brain is added with a mix of spices over the fire for about 30 minutes which gives it a very pungent taste. Best enjoyed with a drink where the spices get the right combination.

Kababs: This is the season where every foodie needs to explore the various kinds of Kababs. Be it Lasoni, Shami, Kalmi, Shish there's one for everyone. I personally liked the Beef Seekh Kabab, Hariyali Beef Kabab, Kalmi and Reshmi Kabab. Make sure that you try the various beef kababs this season.

Sea Food: How can we miss this? There was Crab, Prawn and fish on the menu. Fried Crab, grilled prawns and fried Pomfret were just irresistible. For someone who has not tried Crab or Pomfret this is the best place to start.

Teetar Fry: The soft tender meat of this bird is just mouth watering, a very good alternative to chicken this bird is only available during the Ramadan season. Try this when hot with its perfect blend of masala and spices gives you an unforgettable experience.

Biryani: Be it with chicken or mutton biryani has always been the king of main course and this place is where you get an authentic bite of this historic dish. Unlike other places here I saw halves of chicken served along with biryani rice. This had a very different flavor, a one which I starved for many weeks.

Caramel Pudding: No matter what you eat, this dessert has to be tried out at this place. You don't believe me, we tried it thrice and were okay to have it once again, that's what it meant to us. With milk and caramel, it softly melts on your tongue and then you just want more of it as we did.
